Tim Knowles - Tree Drawings (2006)
Artist’s statement:
“A series of drawings produced using drawing implements attached to the tips of tree branches, the wind’s effects on the tree, recorded on paper.
Like signatures each drawing reveals the different qualities and characteristics of each tree.”

Hello and thank you for the compliment! If you are a beginner, I think any tool is a good tool. There is no need to go all out and buy the most costly tools out there. Especially when you are starting out because you want to learn and understand how the clay preforms. Once you get use to it, you will know better what type of tools you will need depending on what you want to sculpt! I hope that helps!
Edit: To answer your question about what are “essential items” I would say it might be a good idea to go to Michaels or any local craft stores close to you and look in the clay section. They normally have starter sets that have a few tools like a knife, etc. Another tool that is good is a hard acrylic roller to help you flatten your clay. When getting tools, also be considerate of what type of clay you are going to use.
